Targeting
the Athletic Industry
Sporting events around the world are increasingly
becoming targets for the global terrorist
network. Since the murder of 11 athletes at
the Munich Olympics in 1972, the U.S. State
Department has uncovered more than 170 different
plans to attack public sporting games. Sports
events are such an attractive target for terrorists
because they are always accompanied by massive
media coverage, provide potential for thousands
of deaths in a single strike, wreak economic
and political damage and present a situation
where security measures are often compromised
by the need to provide quick and easy access
to paying ticket holders.
Throughout the last several decades, terrorists
have failed to carry out a mega attack during
a sporting event, but athletic industries
around the world understand that increasing
security at public events is now more critical
than ever.

security plans, technology training, emergency
procedures and implementation. Sdema employs
an Explosive Defense System with three central
